Welcome to Kings Processing

Kings Processing has been located in the beautiful Annapolis Valley since the 1960's.  The company is owned by two local farmers. Kings takes pride in supporting local farms, businesses and our local community. We are committed to providing the highest quality fresh cut produce and prepared salads available.

About us

Our business was founded on the production of four freshly prepared salads which has grown to over 20 formulations.  Our product line now also includes sandwich spreads as well as fresh cut fruits and vegetables.  All of these products are produced in our brand new state of the art processing facility.

Kings currently services the four Atlantic Canadian provinces; delivering to wholesalers, retailers and food service operators.

We are committed to food quality and safety.  The plant is inspected by the CFIA and maintains a fish license for the production of products such as tuna salad.  We also undergo third party audits including annual unannounced audits by GFTC and bi-annual audits by Steritec.

Our products are produced fresh to order each day.

History of Kings Processing

Kings Produce Processing Limited (Kings) dates back to the 1960’s when Bruce McKenzie recognized a market in Atlantic Canada for prepared salads.  He opened a plant in Middleton, Nova Scotia and began selling four salad recipes to the foodservice industry.  The original McKenzie’s Potato Salad is still produced today.

Over the years the product line has grown to include a number of prepared salad recipes and fresh cut produce.  Products include fresh cut fruit and vegetables (peeled potatoes, carrot sticks, broccoli florets...), produce kits (spaghetti mix, soup mix, fajita mix...), ‘prepared salads’ (potato salads, pasta salads and coleslaws) and sandwich spreads (egg, tuna, salmon...).

The facility is still located in Middleton, just around the corner from the original plant and employs over sixty people from the local area.  The new facility which was built in 2002 is a state of the art, federally inspected plant with strict food safety controls to ensure the highest quality standards.

As a custom processor, Kings prides itself on supplying the freshest possible cut produce available in Atlantic Canada twelve months of the year.

Today the company is owned by two progressive local farmers (Bruce Rand and Arthur Woolaver) from the Annapolis Valley.  With this ownership comes a commitment to sourcing local.  Kings is a charter member of Nova Scotia Come to Life, Taste of Nova Scotia and supports various charities in the Valley.

Bruce Rand owns and operates Randsland Farm.  Crops include cabbage and tomatoes with the primary focus on broccoli.

Arthur Woolaver owns and operates Basinview Farm and grows a variety of crops including cabbage, potatoes, cauliflower and bell peppers.

In December 2009, Kings was recognized by Community Inc. as an inclusive employer and is a major employer in the Middleton area.

Kings sells its fresh cut produce under the “Garden Express” brand and its prepared salads under the “McKenzie’s” brand.
